She didn’t need words - her gaze was enough. Looking toward us but not quite at us, as if we are already losing her.

For over two million years, orangutans have shaped the forests of Borneo and Sumatra, moving through the trees with effortless grace. But their fate is no longer in their own hands - it rests in ours.

Her eyes hold both wisdom and question—a thread of memory woven through time. Somewhere in our shared past, we walked a path that diverged but never fully broke apart. The destruction of her world is a loss for ours too, even if we don’t always feel it.

“Silent Bond”, with its play of shadow and light, captures that fragile in-between space - not gone, not safe. She is still here, still watching. As her forest shrinks, the silence grows. But the bond remains. The connection between species, the unspoken responsibility we carry. This isn’t just her story. It’s ours too.

An award-winning artwork, "Silent Bond" is part of my "Keystone" series celebrating the unsung wildlife that keeps delicate ecosystems in balance.
